4 Amazing Characteristics Of Heart Of God Church Youths

Most of the youths are not rich, we don’t have the 5 Cs (Cash, Car, Credit Card, Condominium or Country Clubs)

However, the amazing thing about youths in Heart Of God Church is that we have these 4 Cs.

1. Creativity.

To many adults, cash can solve most issues. From small issues like who to fix the bulb at home, to large issues like buying houses and much more. Working adults have grown to use cash as their first resort to solve most issues in life. Some even use cash to solve relationship issues, or even deeper issues like insecurity or purposelessness.

On the other hand, youths don’t have much cash! We receive monthly allowances that only satisfy our hunger, transportation and the occasional Starbucks Coffee when we study (haha…) With that, cash is not our first solution to most problems. What we have is creativity, we are resourceful with what we have.
Youths have this amazing ability to turn nothing into something.

Heart Of God Church is a youth church with about 85% of their congregation with the age of 25 and under. All over the church are idealistic young people, young people are given opportunities all over the church to display their creativity. Nothing gets better than having a community of vibrant young people, creativity overflowing from every corner of the church.

From the dance ministry, to the lights ministry, to the visual effects ministry, to the design ministry. There’s even a group of people in church that film funny videos that include awesome moral values in every episode they call themselves the GXT, (Gao Xiao Tuan) the possibilities of displaying creativity are endless in Heart of God Church. Read more about them here.

The product of young people’s creativity is a world class church.

2. Commitment.

Many claim that young people only do things out of hype and exhilaration that comes with starting something new.

In Heart Of God Church, one of our core messages is sustainable idealism! The message title is self explanatory, idealism that is sustainable. We are not a bunch of people that just like to start something and leave it hanging half way. We go all the way when it comes to being excellent.

Youths in Heart Of God Church are not just a highly emotional bunch, but we focus on character and commitment. Heart Of God Church places a high emphasis on Academic Excellence.

Check out these Testimonials of Academic Excellence. In fact, they enforce their study rule so seriously that during exam periods, members are not allowed to go for services without finishing 20 hours of effective studying during the week. (Only works for heart of god church youths, this is the way the youths display their commitment)

Pastor Tan Seow How always says in church, “Maturity does not come with age, but with the acceptance of responsibility.”

This really shows in the actions and lifestyle of the youths in Heart Of God Church. Youths are mature enough to both do good to the community and do well in school academically and in character.

“We can both do well and do good. its not about either or, its both”
– Pastor Tan Seow How

Oh well, you get my point.

3. CAN.

Yes, you read it right. CAN is the third characteristic I have for you about the youths in Heart Of God Church.

The words/phrases that don’t exist in Heart Of God Church dictionary:
Cannot
Impossible
Can’t be done
Looks difficult
I don’t think thats even possible

Stepping into Heart Of God Church you will always hear, In our very Singaporean lingo, “CAN LEH”, “WOAH! CAN CAN!” or just simply, “Can.”

And honestly, the faith gets to you. I am not naturally a very faith-filled person. However, being surrounded by a community of people that has this attitude, doesn’t really leave you with a choice. HAHA.

In Heart Of God Church, Cannot also become Can.
In Heart Of God Church, Ordinary becomes Extraordinary.
In Heart Of God Church, Impossible becomes I’m Possible.

As cliché as it may sound. but its true.

4. Consecration

Of all the points, this last C is really the X factor of Heart Of God Church. We consecrate our all to serve God and love God because he first loved us.

In the Bible it talks about a lady pouring what was most precious to her. Her Alabaster Jar of fragrant perfume – Luke 7, Matthew 26.

Even the disciples questioned her saying in Matthew 26:8 –
The disciples were indignant when they saw this. “What a waste!” they said. “It could have been sold for a high price and the money given to the poor.”

I just well up with emotions writing this last part, goosebumps all over. Because this is the essence of Heart Of God Church. Sometimes, other friends or even our christian friends would ask us, “Why waste so much of your time serving in church?” or “Why not you get your studies in order before you even think about serving God?” (I’m definitely NOT saying that studies are unimportant)

So why would the Heart Of God Church youth still do it?

Because of verses 10 to 13.

Matthew 26:10-13

10 But Jesus, aware of this, replied, “Why criticize this woman for doing such a good thing to me? 11 You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me.12 She has poured this perfume on me to prepare my body for burial. 13 I tell you the truth, wherever the Good News is preached throughout the world, this woman’s deed will be remembered and discussed.”

We do it because Jesus sees. Jesus cares. Jesus recognises.

Heart Of God Church will always stay a youth church that takes the path less travelled. We take the path even the disciples were not willing to take at that point of time.

At this point of reading this verse, the lord just spoke to me so clearly.

He asked, “Wei Ze, do you know of all things she sacrificed, why perfume?”

Out of curiosity, I asked “Why God?”

He said, “I value the intangibles. The scent of perfumes is intangible. As you consecrate your life, it is like a magnificent scent that comes up to me.”

As intangible as life gets for you, here is a deep quote for you I just thought of – You can’t count your life, but you can definitely make your life count.

And that is the 4 Cs of a Heart Of God Church Youth.

If you’re a liker, hater, neutral. But you’ve found this article interesting in any way.

  1. Hi Kaden, I came across your post that was shared on Facebook was curious about your title. But as I was reading, I kept trying to scan and juice out something that was absent in the post. And that concerned me- especially when reading a post that talks about God’s church. How has Jesus and God’s love come into play by being a youth at church for you? I reckon it would be encouraging to many to hear your thoughts in a post like this 🙂 Nevertheless it was a comical post and fairly interesting! Have a good day 🙂

  2. Hi there(: sounds like a very interesting and vibrant church! In the midst of dying revival where church congregation average age keeps rising, im sure God is happy to see a church full of youths.

But i agree with Rachel, im sure you agree that God plays a bigger part in all these. So maybe a more balanced view will be helpful, in case our friends misunderstand the church for discounting God’s role in transforming the youths! There are people out there who are more sensitive, and can quote u out of context (: lets prevent that ya?

    Nevertheless, rock on youths!

  3. Hey Weize!

Really agreed with what you shared here – especially the fourth point on consecration. God values the intangibles.. We may not have the tangibles to give (the 5 Cs haha), but we give something greater.

Thank you for sharing! You write really well. ☻
